United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization

UNESCO is an intergovernmental organisation that advances peace and sustainable development through education, science, culture, and communication across its 194 Member States. Within UNESCO, the Communication and Information (CI) Sector works to build inclusive and pluralistic Knowledge Societies by promoting media and information literacy, freedom of expression and access to information, and the human rights-based governance of digital platforms as well a human centric approach to digital transformation. Nested within the CI Sector, the Universal Access to Information (UAI) section promotes the principle that information is a public good — championing open solutions and open-source technologies that make knowledge freely accessible, advancing multilingualism to ensure that information is available across languages and cultures, and advocating for government transparency so that citizens everywhere have the legal right to access, understand, and engage with public information.
